Pixel Miner

Here is my Pixel Miner guide for your Pebble watch, it’s short and sweet for people like me who don’t like to read much !

Pixel Miner is a brilliantly simply game, the clue is in the name!  Quite simply, over time, you purchasing new equipment and multipliers that allow you to mine more pixels at a time, known as Pixels Per Second or PPS.

I’ve listed all the equipment and multipliers below my quick guide just in case you cant wait to see what you’ve got coming your way.

If you only read 2 more sentences! Read these two!:

  • You only mine ‘Treasure’ when your viewing the pixel miner game, so leave it running when you can.
  • When you charge your watch, leave it running Pixel Miner !

Whilst playing the game, you can hold down the bottom right button, this will double the speed at which you mine.  This works really well for the first few levels, and if you’re close the your goal.  Treasure starts to appear at a depth of 20.  You sell your treasure to raise money to buy more equipment and multipliers.   I found getting multipliers in early really helped.  However, long term, you really want a nice balance of Equipment and Multipliers.

Equipment:

Each time you buy new equipment, you are in essence improving the speed you can mine pixels.

Level 1 – Hands – 0
Level 2 – Pickaxe – 10

Thank you for the information on the treasures and at what depth you get them, I’m currently at 15m I wanna get to 20m as fast as possible!

  2. Kyle says:

This is what I found out for PPS for each equipment up to the Scoop Digger (which is all I have so far….)
    Hands 1
    Pickaxe 2
    Shovel 3
    Jackhammer 4
    Rotivator 6
    Wolf Claws 9
    Drill Gun 14
    Mower 20
    The Cleaner 30
    Scoop Digger 46

  3. dsk says:

Thanks for all the info you gathered here.

I can add the PPS for each equipment.

Last three numbers are my guesses as they are displayed less accurately in the game. But I am quite confident about those values – it seems that it is a geometric progression with a common ratio 1.5 starting from 4. The values are then rounded.

    Level – Name – Price – PPS
    Level 1 – Hands – 0 – 1
    Level 2 – Pickaxe – 10 – 2
    Level 3 – Shovel – 180 – 3
    Level 4 – Jackhammer – 720 – 4
    Level 5 – Rotivator – 12,000 – 6
    Level 6 – Wolf Claws – 259,200 – 9
    Level 7 – Drill Gun – 907,200 – 14
    Level 8 – Mower – 3,110,440 – 20
    Level 9 – The Cleaner – 7,873,200 – 30
    Level 10 – Scoop Digger – 26,244,000 – 46
    Level 11 – Clawing Digger – 43,302,600 – 68
    Level 12 – Harvester – 70,858,800 – 103
    Level 13 – Goblin Team – 115,145,550 – 154
    Level 14 – Drill Machine – 186,004,350 – 231
    Level 15 – Mutant Mole – 298,935,563 – 346
    Level 16 – Power Loader – 478,296,900 – 519
    Level 17 – Excavator – 762,285,684 – 778
    Level 18 – Ghost Ship – 1,210,689,028 – 1168 (guess)
    Level 19 – Dragon – 1,916,924,295 – 1752 (guess)
    Level 20 – Mothership – 3,026,722,570 – 2627 (guess)

Now let’s solve an algorithmic task: Considering only digging (without 2x boost and treasures) calculate the shortest time needed to max out the equipment and multipliers. Provide the best order of buying the stuff to achieve that time.

  4. R3P1N5 says:

I did some calculations, based on the highest PPS increase to cost ratio, the best order I came up with was…

    1 Multiplier
    2 Pickaxe
    3 Multiplier
    4 Multiplier
    5 Shovel
    6 Multiplier
    7 Multiplier
    8 Jackhammer
    9 Multiplier
    10 Multiplier
    11 Rotivator
    12 Multiplier
    13 Multiplier
    14 Multiplier
    15 Wolf Claws
    16 Multiplier
    17 Drill Gun
    18 Multiplier
    19 Mower
    20 Multiplier
    21 The Cleaner
    22 Multiplier
    23 Scoop Digger
    24 Clawing Digger
    25 Multiplier
    26 Harvester
    27 Goblin Team
    28 Multiplier
    29 Drill Machine
    30 Mutant Mole
    31 Power Loader
    32 Multiplier
    33 Excavator
    34 Ghost Ship
    35 Multiplier
    36 Dragon
    37 Mothership
    38 Multiplier

This doesn’t take into consideration the difference in time to accumulate the difference in cost at each level of purchasing. That makes things a lot more complicated.

The basic formula I used was:

    if(EquipUpgradeCost/(NewEquipmentPixelsPerSecond*Multiplier) > MultiplierUpgradeCost/(EquipmentPixelsPerSecond*NewMultiplier){
    UpgradeEquipment
    }else{
    UpgradeMultiplier
    }

Post a comment if you come up with something better.

  5. Dave Wagner says:

I wrote a python script to find the shortest time needed to reach the 20x Multiplier and the Mother Ship. The result was 13 days, 3 hours, and 9 minutes without accounting for treasure and assuming you always buy the second you have enough money each time. I used the prices and guesses from DSK above.

Here are my results (with the total accumulated seconds at purchase):

    1. 2x Multiplier – 5 sec
    2. Pickaxe – 10 sec
    3. 3x Multiplier – 14 sec
    4. 4x Multiplier – 22 sec
    5. Shovel – 44 sec
    6. 5x Multiplier – 56 sec
    7. 6x Multiplier – 87 sec
    8. Jackhammer – 127 sec
    9. 7x Multiplier – 188 sec
    10. Rotivator – 616 sec

I did some calculations based on time to solve with a shortest path search using time to accumulate purchase price as distances between the 400 possible nodes(20 Equipment * 20 Multipliers). The quickest solution is 13 days, 3 hours, and 9 minutes not accounting for treasure. Here is the order I found with total accumulated seconds at time of purchase for each upgrade.

    1. 2x Multiplier – 5 sec
    2. Pickaxe – 10 sec
    3. 3x Multiplier – 14 sec
    4. 4x Multiplier – 22 sec

I uploaded the python script I used to pastebin. Search for “pixelminer solution” there.

Found a really simple way to maximize your mining income without worrying about checking your Pebble every two hours to restart the game when it autoquits.

On my Pebble Time, when I have Pixel Miner open, I attach the charger cable and leave it on the “Charging…” screen. DO NOT back out of this. It will alternate between “Charging…” and “Charged” as the game runs. For as long as it is on these screens, the game will not quit. You can leave it running overnight and get the full 8 hours of treasures AND pixels mined without the two hour interruption. Went from excavator to ghost ship to dragon in about a day.

  8. Somejan says:

It looks like the animation is slowing down the actual mining. If I have the mining screen visible my pixels increase by about half of what it should be according to the PPS value (excluding the ‘mine faster’ button). Outside of the game or when I open the upgrades menu the mining speed is in line with the PPS value. And you still get treasures while in the upgrade menu, so that’s my screen of choice for now.
